Kernel 2.6.32.8-pharox released for Debian/Ubuntu (Pharox)
Feb 12th
Today seems a good day to release a new kernel package. It’s Friday, it’s almost weekend and why not have some fun with a new kernel release. The kernel was release a couple of days ago, but to be honest, I couldn’t build it due to not having a machine working on some older Ubuntu. Now, if you do not remember what I am talking about, I will give you a small hint, if you have a newer version of Ubuntu or Debian and you do build a kernel and then of course you wanna use that build kernel on some older Ubuntu or Debian, it wont be possible due to libc libraries incompatibility, so because of this you need to build the kernel or kernel package on older system and the you can use it on newer systems too.
Kernel 2.6.32.7-firefly released for Debian/Ubuntu (Firefly)
Jan 30th
Now I know I’m gonna repeat myself, but this is the 4th release in 2 weeks. I’m not sure how come there are so many release out of the door, but seems there are a lot of fixes added to each release. So this release is 2.6.32.7 which seems to bring more improvements and fixes so I wont start talking about them, but I will give you a snapshot and in case you wanna read more then just go to http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/ChangeLog-2.6.32.7.
Kernel 2.6.32.6-jackson released for Debian/Ubuntu (Jackson)
Jan 26th
Just a couple of days ago, kernel.org developers have release kernel 2.6.32.4, then soon after 2.6.32.5 and now 2.6.32.6. Seems something has change or a lot of bugs where fixed, because in less then 5 days (well +/-) they release tree version. One thing I have noticed in 2.6.32.6 is that the i915 module and drm module where really improved as I got from my tests 1000 frames more then usually. Note also that I am using the latest Mesa, DRM and Intel video drivers available, but I have to admit that it works superb. In the last couple of month there were tons of issues with the i915 module and driver which lacked in performance, but now seems things are going into the right direction.
Besides this big step forward with the i915 video driver, there are other fixed which make this kernel to perform better than the previous ones and a good plus is also some good fixed for ext4 file system, which does seem to out perform ext3 file system, well anyway in my tests
. Now do not forget to check the ChangeLog from kernel.org for more info on whats new and what was fixed.
Kernel 2.6.32.4-shanghai released for Debian/Ubuntu (Shanghai)
Jan 21st
As usual, there is a new kernel release, 2.6.32.4 and with that a new kernel package release for Debian/Ubuntu, 2.6.32.4-shanghai. I think after so many release all of you are use to the same talk so this time I will keep it short. As it does include all the necessary modules and patches to work on netbooks, but also on laptops/desktops, I wont mention them anymore, but I will mention that you should check the ChangeLog from kernel.org to see whats new in this release.
So, please download this release, install it and see how it works. Should work quite nicely, as it was already tested and seems to be improved especially when it come to DRM and i915 drivers.
Kernel 2.6.32.3-superfly released for Debian/Ubuntu (Superfly)
Jan 8th
Before I even start talking about this new release, I would like to wish you all a Happy New Year! and hope that all your wishes and dreams will come true in this new year! Starting with this new year I hope I will do more for the Linux community, with maybe more kernel packages and other packages which could help everyone to keep their laptop/desktop/netbook updated also at top speed, well as much as possible.
Now to go back to the release, big things didn’t change, but the goodies are there. With this new release, I have changed the revision, usually I was using revision 1 or 2 and so on, but now I have changed it to, for example: 2.6.32.3.1. This will look much more better in dpkg or in general in the list of packages installed. The usual fixed and modules are there, for example: acerhdf 0.5.22 (Acer Aspire One fan control module), coretemp is fixed for Intel Atom processors, unionfs patch and support, ureadahead (uber-readahead) for Ubuntu systems (makes booting time faster), plus a custom build which should ensure that the kernel is faster, smaller and stable. Please also check the changelog from kernel.org related to this kernel release http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/ChangeLog-2.6.32.3.
