Kernel 2.6.30.2-godsmack released for Debian/Ubuntu (Godsmack)
A new kernel version has been released by the kernel development team and with this a new kernel package build also is now released by me for Debian/Ubuntu. This new release includes kernel 2.6.30.2 with acerhdf fan module (0.5.16) for Acer Aspire One, coretemp fix for Intel Atom based netbooks/desktops, plus removal of different kernel hacking settings for a kernel speed-up. Now what this new kernel version has to offer can be found at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/ChangeLog-2.6.30.2.
I haven’t test this new release on Acer Aspire One netbooks, but I did already test it on Lenovo T61 and seems to work quite fine. When it comes to improvements, I really can’t see much of a differences between this release and the previous one (2.6.30.1), but I suppose deep down in the core there is already many improvements done, which will make it more stable, fast and even secure.
The installation method for Debian/Ubuntu I wont explain here, as I’ve done this already a couple of times in some previous posts. To download this new Debian/Ubuntu kernel packages please go to: http://dl.robertalks.com/kernel/2.6.30.2-godsmack/. The main package which you need is linux-image-2.6.30.2-godsmack_1_i386.deb, but would be a good idea to have also linux-headers-2.6.30.2-godsmack_1_i386.deb installed to be able to build applications.
The name of this release is Godsmack, which like I said before comes from my favorite rock bands, but it doesn’t really mean anything, it’s just a name and I like it. ![]()
For developers or different distro build please go to: http://dl.robertalks.com/kernel/2.6.30.2-godsmack/source/ (this only in case you wanna build your own kernel or you are using a different distro then Debian/Ubuntu)
Hi Robert,
Have you seen the reports about the security hole in the 2.6.30 kernel?

I think this is fixed in the latest source.
Cheers, Will
I dont really think it matters. Most of the users use this kernel for netbooks and maybe some desktop and laptops. I wouldn’t use the kernel that I’ve build for servers.
Good point!
Thanks for all your hard work on this kernel build, works great on my AAO, except for the right hand card reader. I cannot get it to work. If I try to ‘modprobe pciehp’ it says the module does not exist. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Hi,
Is there some reason why unionfs is omitted? I find it useful for SSDs.
Thanks!
Unionfs it’s not included in the original kernel and until now I never even heared about it. Im gonna try to see if would be possible to include, but can’t promise anything.
PCIEHP its there but it’s in the kernel. It’s not build as a module. I’m gonna try to modify that now, hopefully will work.
Cool, thanks for looking into it.
Cheers.
me have HZ1000 kernel and RealTime kernel for debian and http://kernel.nifares.net
