openSUSE officially sucks!

0

Yes I’ve said it! It sucks and it sucks more then Windows does. I have 3 laptops, 2 at home and one at work, using on most of them Ubuntu Desktop 8.04 or 8.10 and of course Windows XP. Now Ubuntu works quite fine, except some minor issues, like sound problems in Skype or driver problems for one of my Wifi adapter. One of this laptop is an Acer Extensa 5220, which is a quite nice laptop, but it has some issues with the wifi, its an Atheros wifi adapter and in Ubuntu there are issue with it. I added a PCMCIA wifi adapter from Broadcom and with b43-fwcutter it works on Ubuntu. Now the problem was the sound in Skype which seemed impossible to fix so I decided to move from Ubuntu 8.10 to openSUSE 11.1, which at the time seemed a good idea.

SSL enabled!

0

I’ve done this too. I have enabled SSL for my blog and web site, so anyone who wants to view the pages thru SSL, now they can. I don’t know how much it matters, but for some more security this actually helps a bit. The only issue is that the certificates are self-signed by me, which kind of gives a bit of issues with the browsers, companing that not all the parts of the web page are encrypted. I hope this is not really a big deal, as buying a proper certificates kind of cost too much for using it to a blog or personal web page.

Happy SSL surfing everyone! :)

robertalks.com major move from Canada to US.

As of today I have move the website, domain and blog to a new server. I had too many problems with the dedicated server in Canada, so I decided to get a small VPS only for robertalks.com. I’m using the same OS, just one system is real and the other one is virtual. I have pick a Xen based VPS (virtual private server), because it gives me more access to the system. Now the new VPS is not really strong, has just 256MB of RAM with 10GB of disk space and it runs CentOS 5.2, but its quite OK for my website and blog… I hope. :)

Sepultura concert in Zlin (CZ) …

0

I haven’t been writing here for a while, well a week or so, but I didn’t really have time, been around with problems and issue, but had time to check a super nice concert with Sepultura. I got the tickets as a Christmas present from my girlfriend and we went the both of us. The concert was in Zlin, Czech Republic. A small city from CZ, nothing really impressive, besides the fact that the people from Zlin seems to get more and more bands and cool music then anyone in CZ :( .

Half dead and Half sleeping, but with a car…

I feel like a bitch, not the working one, I mean. This flu or cold, what ever it is, is really killing me. I don’t like it and doesn’t help with the work or anything like that.

Very sick!
