DNS move for robertalks.com

0

Until now I was paying a service from dnsmadeeasy.com to be able to point my domains to different ip addresses. Now, I don’t really wanna pay anymore. I have 3 servers and this 3 servers can act as name servers also. This also takes time to setup, as I am not the best in the dns area. Now my name servers work, they need some tuning lets say, but they do work and most of my domains are moved already to the new name servers. My problem now comes with robertalks.com, my domain, where I have also my blog. Moving from dnsmadeeasy.com to my own name servers takes a bit of downtime when it comes to resolving the domain. I think it needs like 24-48 hours or so, until its being updated in the root servers or something like that.

KDE 4.2 Released

Was reading today on a couple of blogs and IT related news web sites and seems that the guys from KDE have release KDE version 4.2. I also surfed on the official web site of KDE and saw some screen shots of the new release and seems quite promising. Now usually, I don’t get excited when it comes to KDE, I prefer Gnome, as it looks and work a bit more professionally, but if KDE with version 4.2 can pull of some interesting features and a better stability and integration with rest of the desktop application, maybe soon I might move to KDE.

Linux: Monitoring with Monit your system

0

This days on the Internet you can find tons of application, scripts, services with which you can monitor you server, desktop, services, network. A good monitoring tool is one that can monitorĀ  services, network, files and directories. Something like this is Monit, a small open source application for your Unix system, which can be used for servers or desktops too. Basically it has a small footprint which can be easily configured and doesn’t eat a lot of system resources. Some of the Linux distro have Monit in their repositories, but the best idea is to download the latest release, build it, configured it and deploy it.

MySQL: mysqltunner.pl and why to use it.

Most of us who run a server, use the basic stuff, Apache, PHP, MySQL, to provide a web site, a blog, a forum and so on. I also use MySQL on all of my server, but when it comes to a proper optimization, not just table optimization, I’m just dump. I don’t know MySQL server as I should, to be able to provide for my web site and users the speed, stability and security which they would need.
